After 1959's failed uprising & pressure on Tibet to conform to Chinese rule the country's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, fled Tibet to India. China cracked down on religious practice & destroyed monasteries. It is illegal to carry a picture of the Dalai Lama under threat of imprisonment. This is why Free Tibet protestors are demonstrating & disrupted the 2008 Beijing Olympics...
